With respect to the group, getting to this point was a little more difficult than I anticipated and I am thankful that common sense eventually prevailed.
Essentially, the 'decision' here was between working as a group on all spreads at once (on one mac), or to divide up the spreads equally (11 students per team member) and to work on them individually (each on our own machine) with a view to amalgamating them into one document and making slight alterations afterwards to ensure a balanced flow throughout the publication...
...one pair of hands physically designing at any given time, or four pairs of hands designing simultaneously? You wouldn't have thought this needed much discussion, but nevertheless it did and thank god we arrived at the right decision.
So finally, having argued the toss, I took it upon myself to divide up the publication between us so that we could make some rapid progress and have something close to a final (albeit initial) mock up by the end of tomorrow. Ambitious, but definitely achievable.
Below are a selection of spreads completed by Ed, Vickie and Tim this afternoon (my own to follow):

Overall, the agreed design direction has been honoured by everyone and the progress we have made as a group appears to be efficient, effective and most importantly consistent.
I believe that we are, at this point in time, very much on course with regards to print deadlines and the overall project management side of things.
Hopefully the group and I won't run into an awkward situation like this again and continue to operate smoothly as a unit... it's more enjoyable that way!
