Fine Art Yearbook: Layout Development 03

With new images for Alex Nightingale, Jessie Simmonds and the feature spreads, the rest of this morning and early afternoon was spent developing the necessary alterations for the Fine Art Yearbook.

As a collaborative effort with 100% attendance, we ploughed through what was needed to be done in a relatively short amount of time. I have to say it was quite cosey in the mac suite for a change.

Other than the obvious, there are a decent handful of changes to note so I will list them below (in chronological order):

01. Feature shot alongside introduction added

02. Surplus image removed from Stephanie Barratt's spread

03. Geri Callan spread re-designed to showcase work with more clarity

04. Jimmy Cave's spread simplified to better suit the flow of the book

05. Alex Cunningham's spread altered for the same reason

06. Ahmed El Haddad's spread altered to be more dynamic

07. Slight tweak on Chikae Howland's spread, bottom left (aesthetic choice)

08. Becky Johnson's spread re-designed to be more dynamic

09. Liam Kelly's spread re-designed for greater clarity

10. Alex Nightingale's new images added

11. Isabel Skinner's spread re-worked, yet needs improvement still

12. Jessie Simmonds' new images added

Having made these amendments the group and I feel that we are almost there with the design of the entire book. A few more spreads need tweaking and we are yet to receive the touring info and course introduction, but there is definitely light at the end of the tunnel.

To clarify, from here we need to:

01. Layout final introduction text once received
02. Clarify final page numbering and apply
03. Amend the spreads of the following students for the listed reasons detailed below:

Geri Callan

Widow within personal statement, no matter how many columns we span the paragraph.

Ian Chapman

Image still of a sub-standard quality. As far as we are aware new images are on their way within 24hrs. This deadline is strict.

Lisa Derbyshire

In our eyes, the spread still isn't working from a design point of view and in conjunction with the desire of the student, we have allowed for new images of work to be supplied within 24hrs.

Simon Phillips

Layout is a bit image heavy and a bit manic, but images are top quality. I'm sure the team and I will crack it on our next attempt.

Jonny Rawlin

Yet to supply silouette scans, although these are similarly due within the next 24hrs or they won't be going into the catalogue.

Isbel Skinner

Spread still isn't working, although Isabel has clarified that the image originally to be 'full bleed' is in fact not the right one. The spread in its current state displays the correct full bleed image, however Isabel has also expressed the desire to supply one more new image partly due our request.

Bobby West

We are really pushing to acquire a new image from Bobby, although getting hold of him is proving to be quite difficult. Although not entirely fair, we may stretch slightly beyond our 24hr deadline in order for new images to be provided for the good of the yearbook as a whole... smaller images just look wrong.

04. Layout page for touring info and End of Year Show times
05. Layout credits and colophon for inside covers
