Fine Art Yearbook: Meeting w/ Duffields

Another aspect of this afternoon's development was one that I felt needed a separate blog post.

In essence, whilst Tim and Vickie were ploughing on with some loose cover ideas and additional layouts I was busy putting together a print spec that we could take to Duffields (via foot or phone) in order to obtain an estimate.

As documented from my workings-out we have allowed for 100pp (50 leaves) + the cover to get everything in. What's useful about this is that (give or take a spread or two) the book will be same size as our Graphic Design Yearbook last year, so we can roughly see how big the thing is going to be.

The one thing was surprising was that having given Duffields a call to get a estimate, Clive actually offered to come in as soon as he had finished up his meeting in Wakefield. So at 4pm we met him and had a chat over a quick cup of tea.

Taking a lead role from my experience with Team (Amazon Publication) and Footprint (Garry Barker) we decided on two alternate specifications:

Fine Art Yearbook v1:

210x210mm

Cover - 300gsm coated
Leaves - 90gsm uncoated

100pp / 50 leaves

4 colour process CYMK

lock bound (improved version of perfect bound)

Specials - spot UV on the cover

1500-2000 units (negotiable)

Fine Art Yearbook v2:

210x210mm

Cover - 300gsm uncoated
Leaves - 90gsm uncoated

100pp / 50 leaves

4 colour process CYMK

lock bound (improved version of perfect bound)

Specials - matte black foil on cover

1500-2000 units (negotiable)

A printed estimate should be with by Mon/Tues next week - very efficient.

Clive also stated that we could pop down anytime given 24hrs notice to see how the place operates and to source paper samples.

This will most likely be next week to keep the progress flowing. Exciting!
